RCDC Endorsement Process Is Undemocratic

The  Richmond Democratic Committee is scheduled to endorse candidates for municipal office and as usual the same old backroom string pullers are manipulating the rules to benefit those who the so called executive committee favor.  As we know in politics there are many reasons to support a candidate in many cases it is money, family connections, and in some cases intimate personal relationships.  Much like in 2008 we find an extreme conflict of interest in the RCDC endorsement process.  The executive committee acts in an autonomous manner and uses the general members as a prop.  For example the endorsement process was controlled entirely by the executive committee without any input from the committee as a whole.  The meetings leading to the upcoming endorsement were marred by distractions including  a ruling from Committee chair Minor that alleged there was no quorum.  This was an outlandish claim because there were more members at the August meeting in question then any other meeting during Minor’s time as chair.  The members of the executive committee are also withholding valuable campaign tools from some democratic candidates while offering them to others.  One example of this is disseminating the VAN voter list to some members of the committee while withholding from others.  Members of the executive committee are or have in the past received monetary compensation for work done for current candidates and are clearly showing these candidates favor over others.  There is also a question about the finality and legitimacy of the ballot which is a prerequisite for eligibility in the RCDC endorsement.  There is a pending Federal Court case and three other preceding showing mistakes made and changes in the official ballot.  The process put forward by the RCDC seems to be in contradiction to Democratic principles and fairness.  We demand a fair endorsement or no endorsement at all.

  1. I’m not sure why but this website is loading extremely slow for me. Is anyone else having this issue or is it a problem on my end? I’ll check back later on and see if the problem still exists.
